Those who love riding a bike know how important the riding gears are. Not only they are important from a safety point of view but they look so classy and set you apart from the rest. Invented in 1946 and made known to the World by Marlon Brando (The Wild One), the motorcycle leather jackets are used both as armor and to make a strong and bold fashion statement. As an armor, these leather jackets work towards protecting the driver from accidental injuries. Buying a motorcycle jacket in leather makes a lot of sense as leather is versatile, resistant to wear and tear and quite durable. What a good motorcycle leather jacket should offer? When you are going to shop the jacket for you pick the one which would protect you from winds, rains and injuries. Look for the jacket which has not only padding on the shoulders and the elbows but also has got some padding on the back and the chest. Make sure the padding on the chest and the back should be semi-rigid as it would not move with the driver’s movement. The leather motorcycle jacket should be made from waterproof leather so you could wear them in rains without any need of a raincoat. It would be a better pick if your jacket has got many pockets. Also if it is at least a millimeter thick it would help you protect from heavy winds and chilly weather. A zipped inner lining and zipper on the wrists would make it very versatile. You could wear them in all the weather comfortably. How? Let me tell you. Just remove the inner lining and keep the wrist zip open so now the air could circulate properly and you would fell cool even on a hot sunny day. Some good jackets come with slightly dropped back and articulated sleeves. So whenever the biker leans ahead, the wind would move out. Correct fit is also very important. Check the shoulders; they should not look dropped down. Not only a proper fit ensures that you look good but you would be able to ride the bike comfortably. Though there are various materials in leather which you could choose. Buffalo and cowhide are the most commonly used. Both are split leather and made from the lower hides separated from the upper layers. The leather is split and then the hides are separated till the desired thickness is obtained. So there is no question of durability and the protection these jackets offer. Moreover, the split leather is soft and offers more flexibility so they are very comfortable to wear. Also one could look for the hardware like the buttons, zippers and snaps. All should be of excellent quality. Last but not the least, when you are looking to buy a motorcycle jacket remember that a good one would not come cheap. It is a onetime investment and would reap the benefits for years to come.
