Your leather jacket would keep shining bright and let you create a perfect style statement if you take good care of them. The leather jackets and coats which keep you warm during the chilly winters need to be looked after well if you want to look great while wearing them. Cleaning them is not at all a difficult task. You could either choose to clean them through professional cleaners or could it all by yourself at home. Removing the oil/Grease stains: never use water when you want your leather jacket to get rid of oil or grease stain. Pouring water on the stain would further spread it. Instead use a dry cloth and remove the excess oil. Use talc powder or cornstarch and let it stand overnight. These would act as absorbing agents and would remove the oil or grease. Removing the ink stains: buy a rubbing alcohol from a drug store and rub it on the stained area. Keep it for 15-20 minutes and then rub it away with a soft cloth. The ink stained would be cleaned. If the spill has affected a larger area, it is advised that you give your jacket or affected leather apparel for professional clean up. The same method could be applied for cleaning up the mild dew or mold stains from the jacket. The only advice is that after application, the material should be kept for air dry and not placed under direct sunlight. Removing the salt stains: if you live in a very cold region where snowfall is a regular practice, stains on the leather jackets are very prominent. This is due to the reason that salt is applied to the roads and sidewalks for melting the snow and provide for easy walking. Removing cough syrup from the leather: take a bucket of warm water and add a mild detergent or soap and wait till a lot of Suds are formed. Then apply suds on the affected leather surface and rub it gently. The stain would be removed. Dry wipe the surface. If the stain is a difficult one, you could consider using cornmeal or cornstarch and leave the apparel for several hours. It would act as an absorbent and would clear the stain. When you get rid of the stain from your leather apparel, apply a leather conditioner. This would prevent the leather from drying out. Moisturize your leather apparels regularly: this is a key factor if you want that your leather apparel keeps looking soft years after years. Moisturize the fabric. For moisturizing you could consider a solution of vinegar and oil (linseed or mink oil) in the ratio 1:2. Apply the mixture with a dry chamois cloth and leave it there for 15 minutes. You would see that your leather jacket is once again shining like a new one.
